In the period between 2018 and 2022, children attending bilingual daycare centers will be tested several times. Several kinds of information are gathered about the children and the way bilingual input is offered to them.
Language tasks with children
The children’s language use will be observed through tasks intended to measure their vocabulary and grammar skills in Dutch and English.
The childcare teachers will be asked to provide information via questionnaires about the language skills of the children in their group.
Parents will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about the languages they speak at home and their children’s skills in the languages they speak at home.
Finally, we will observe conversations between the childcare teachers and the children at the center how the two languages are presented to learn how they present the language and how the children respond to this.
